SAHRC investigates harassment allegations | News Article

Bloemfontein - The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has launched an investigation into a case of harassment involving the SA Police Service.

This comes after a large group of students from the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein approached the commission regarding students, allegedly being mishandled by the police during the #FeesMustFall protests.

The Commission's Kelly-Anne Cleophas says the police allegedly kicked down doors of student residences and terrorised them. Cleophas says students allege that they were forced out of residences by the police and campus security.

"Because of the seriousness of the allegations of eviction by the university, and intimidation by the police, we had to intervene."

The Commission advised student leaders to also approach the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to assist with the case.
