Bloemfontein - Taxi drivers taking the Brandwag route to and from the University of the Free State’s main campus in Bloemfontein, say they are fed-up with “#FeesMustFall” protests.

Taxi drivers say these protests and campus shutdowns are costing them valuable business, as students are opting to stay away from campus.

Theo Malele, spokesperson of the National Taxi Alliance, says the protests have greatly affected the industry.

Student movement has affected the industry on a national scale, because less students are making frequent trips as more students are opting to stay at home and work online.

"There will be less movement from kids in the townships or anywhere else. They will not be going to school on a regular basis. Especially the day-scholars and even those that reside on campus, use taxis for some or another reason. This has actually affected the revenue of the industry," Malele adds.
