Virginia - Arguments to determine once and for all whether Maartens van der Merwe is fit to stand trial is currently underway in the circuit court in Virginia.
Van der Merwe, who is thought to have brutally murdered 23-year-old Michael van Eck in a Welkom cemetery in 2011 was found fit to stand trial by the high court in Bloemfontein earlier this year but conflicting psychiatric reports about his mental state has now compelled the court to make a final decision.
