Giniel slips to sixth

South Africa's Giniel De Villiers slipped to sixth overall in the car standings after stage three of the Dakar Rally in Peru.

South Africa's Giniel De Villiers slipped to sixth overall in the car standings after stage three of the Dakar Rally in Peru yesterday.

The South African, who won the race in 2009, finished in 15th place after getting lost.

He lost more than 20 minutes due to navigation problems.  As a result, De Villiers and his German co-driver, Dirk von Zitzewitz lie 30 minutes and 22 seconds adrift of overall leader and race-favourite Stephane Peterhansel.

Last year's Dakar winner, Nasser Al-Attiyah, won yesterday’s third stage and is now second in the overall standings.
