Celtic and Tuks settle for a draw

───   08:37 Thu, 04 Apr 2013

First-half goals from either side ensured the University of Pretoria and Bloemfontein Celtic were made to share the spoils in their Absa Premiership clash at Tuks Stadium, in Pretoria, on Wednesday evening.

Tuks' Vincent Kobola put the ball into his own net in the second minute, before Aubrey Ngoma leveled the game on the half-hour mark, leaving the sides deadlocked after 90 minutes.

The hosts got off to the worst possible start, with Kobola making a costly defensive blunder 90 seconds into the clash, after Celtic winger Joel Mogorosi delivered a dangerous ball into the Tuks six-yard box, which Kobola somehow steered past goalkeeper Washington Arubi.

The home side responded by applying plenty of pressure in the Celtic half, but they failed to make their chances count, until Ngoma picked up on a loose ball after a fluffed free-kick attempt on the half-hour mark, rounded goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb and cooly netted the equaliser, untouched and untroubled by the Celtic defence.

Lennox Bacela came close for the visitors less than five minutes before the interval, after Mogorosi delivered another accurate cross into the box, with Bacela rising above his marker and heading toward goal, though he saw his effort sail over the crossbar.

Celtic looked intent on restoring their lead after half-time but failed to create any meaningful opportunities in front of goal, with Bacela, Mogorosi and second-half replacement Ruzaigh Gamildien coming close but failing to trouble Arubi.

At the other end, Tuks substitute Ayanda Lubelo nearly took the lead for his side when he hit a thunderous effort at goal, but was thwarted by Tignyemb, who made a solid save to deny the youngster.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper again came to Celtic's rescue a minute later, making an excellent save low down to stop Lionel Mutizwa's well-struck effort from outside the area.
