The Sandman back again at the Northface in Australia

───   09:56 Tue, 23 Apr 2013

The 6th edition of the NorthFace 100 – one of the most difficult 100km ultra-trail marathon events in the Southern Hemisphere – will be starting on Saturday the 18th of May in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park in Leura, Australia.

“I am really excited to be going back to The North Face Australia 100 for the third year,” says defending champion Ryan Sandes. “The race has a great vibe and takes place on an awesome track. My training is going well and I will be using TNF Aus as a build-up race to the Western States 100 miler in June.”

Ryan will be competing against some other top names including, Vajin Armstrong (NZ) who was 2nd last year, Andrew Tuckey (AUS) 3rd last year, Brendan Davies (AUS), Grant Guise (NZ), Andrew Lee (AUS), Mick Donges (AUS) and Sam Walker (AUS) who has never run TNF100 but has been 2nd place in the local and highly competitive Six Foot Track Marathon. The 100km race has over 1000 entries making it a large and challenging field. After winning the 2012 race all eyes are on the Sandman to prove his magic again at this year’s race.

“I am really pleased that Ryan is returning for his 3rd run in 3 years in The North Face 100. Firstly, because it is always such a bonus to have a really good bloke win your races and secondly, there are so many amazing trail runs across the globe so Ryan must consider The North Face 100 to be one worthy event,” says Race Director, Tom Landon-Smith. “Having a runner of Ryan's calibre really adds to the buzz and success of The North Face 100. I wonder how many people are thinking they can get close to him or even beat him this year? I personally think he will have something extra special in the tank that he was holding in reserve, as last year when he was focussing on Western States which was only a few weeks later. I do think that Ryan's friendly attitude does help shape the sport of ultra running in a great way. When the masses see that the best are such friendly and humble people, then either good people are attracted to the sport or the people in the sport have no reason to be anything but amazing. You are a brilliant role model Ryan -thanks for coming back mate!”
