Zuma's integrity under attack in Parliament─── 18:15 Wed, 22 May 2013
Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma's integrity and ability to lead the country has come under attack in Parliament.
A snap debate was held on the so-called Guptagate saga today. In April around 200 Gupta wedding guests on board a privately chartered jet made an unauthorised landing at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria.
Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe insisted that Zuma and members of his Cabinet were not involved in the Gupta saga. Government blamed officials for the security breach.
But opposition parties today said there are more questions than answers. The DA's David Maynier said Zuma is at the heart of the problems that led to ‘Guptagate’ - creating a culture of undue influence referred to in the investigation report.
Amongst other issues the report states that the reference to an invitation by the Free State government was opaque, as no member of this party travelled to the Free State for any such meeting. However an Indian state minister was received by the MEC for Agriculture three days prior to the arrival of the Gupta wedding party.
This Indian minister therefor arrived and departed from South Africa completely separate from the Gupta wedding party, despite attending the wedding at Sun City.
