Reckless driver case almost complete

───   07:16 Thu, 23 May 2013

Argument in aggravation of sentence in the case of a Hummer driver accused of crashing into three motorcyclists, killing two, will be heard in the Pretoria North Regional court today.

Indi Hamalindi Chiyabu was convicted of culpable homicide after he crashed into the motorcyclists in Pretoria, in October 2010 while driving a Hummer.

The vehicle caught fire and Chiyabu fled the scene. He handed himself over to police a few days later.

Pieter Coetzee and JP Kruger, both members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association SA, died at the scene. Coetzee's son Pieter lost a leg in the accident.

Chiyabu reportedly offered to compensate the victims' families with a negotiable R700 000 payout.
