Ryan McLaren stars with bat and ball in the Proteas' loss

Bloemfontein - Proteas lost three wickets for six runs off 13 balls to hamper their run chase against India in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Having been set 332 for victory the Proteas were bowled out for 305 off the last ball of the 50th over to lose by 26 runs. As a result their second group match against Pakistan has become a virtual knock-out fixture.

Knights all-rounder Ryan McLaren stepped up to the challenge set for him with both bat and ball to firmly establish himself as the Proteas mainstay all-rounder.

McLaren picked-up 3 wickets for 70 runs and top-scored for the South Africans’ with a hard-fought knock of 71 not out off just 61 deliveries.

In the end his valiant effort was just not enough as he and the injured Morné Morkel fought to the bitter end.

Proteas captain AB de Villiers expressed his disappointment after the match, however said their will take the positives out of the loss and move forward.

De Villiers went on to say they know Pakistan well enough from their recent ODI series in South Africa and know where to taget the Pakistanis.
