SAPS won't speculate on top GP cop's death─── 12:16 Wed, 19 Jun 2013
Police will not speculate on whether Johannesburg cluster commander Maj-Gen Tirhani Maswanganyi was killed because of his involvement in a murder case.
Gauteng commissioner Mzwandile Petros said he was aware that Maswanganyi had been subpoenaed to testify in court, but he was not the key witness.
Maswanganyi was found dead in a field near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, yesterday. He was found in the early hours of the morning in a bushy area near the road with his hands and feet tied.
His abandoned vehicle was found next on Monday evening. A police uniform and police identification card were in the car, which prompted a search.
A post-mortem is being carried out to determine the cause of death.
