A man with muscular dystrophy completes the Chicago Marathon

Venezuelan Maickel Melamed who suffers from muscular dystrophy, finished the Chicago Marathon in nearly 17 hours.
 
38-year-old Maickel Melamed of Caracas, Venezuela, made it across the finish line at 1:30 a.m.  in the morning.
 
About 100 people cheered him on as he finished.
 
He received a finisher's medal.
 
After crossing the line, Melamed expressed his desire for everyone to have peace inside by saying: 
 
"When you give it all, you feel peace inside, so that is my desire for everyone."
Later, he said, "When you cross this finish line, you think to yourself, 'I can do anything in my life'."
 
Melamed started running marathons two years ago and Chicago was his third.
 
He has competed in marathons in Berlin and New York City and plans to tackle the upcoming Tokyo and Boston races.
 
His official time for the Chicago Marathon was 16 hours and 46 minutes.
