Water restrictions lifted in Kimberley

───   11:50 Tue, 22 Oct 2013

Bloemfontein - Water restrictions in Kimberley, which have been enforced overnight for more than two weeks, will be lifted from tonight.

The Sol Plaatje municipality introduced the restrictions after large parts of the city was without water due to low water levels at the Newton Reservoir.

Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie says the reservoir system at Newton is currently at 15 feet. He says the capacity of the four dams at the reservoir is 16 feet or 263 million litres of water.

Matsie apologised for any inconvenience caused by the water shortages.

Business owners in Kimberley had accused the municipality of being dishonest, with some saying they'd lost thousands of Rands, while others were forced to close shop.
