Scott could topple Woods as number 1

───   09:53 Thu, 06 Mar 2014

Reigning Masters champion Adam Scott has a chance to dethrone Tiger Woods as world number one with a victory in this week's R93 million World Golf Championships Cadillac Championship.

The 33-year-old Australian, who already achieved one dream by becoming the first Aussie to capture the coveted green jacket with his triumph last year at Augusta National, would accomplish another by taking the top ranking.

In addition to having to win the event over the revamped layout at Doral's Blue Monster course, Woods must finish outside the top six.

Scott will play alongside Woods and Sweden's Henrik Stenson for the first two rounds.

Coming only 11 months after his first major win, Scott admits the chance to become number one has arrived quicker than he anticipated.
