───   15:47 Mon, 31 Mar 2014

Welkom - Thabong SAPS under the command of Brigadier Cois Muller has been declared the best police station in the entire country at the South African Police Service Annual National Excellence Awards 2014. The announcement was made at this prestige ceremony which was held at
Monument Park, Pretoria on Thursday, 27 March 2014.

The three police stations that competed at the final phase for Best Station Category were Haterspruit SAPS (Kwa-Zulu Natal), Thabong SAPS (Free State) and Uitenhage SAPS (Eastern Cape) which was scooped by Thabong SAPS. The criterion used to evaluate the nominees was performance chart, front line service delivery, corporate image, neatness/appearance, client satisfaction (survey), partnership and effectiveness of CPF.

Brig Cois Muller cascaded the good news to all members in the Monday opening parade today. He told the station members that the award was not achieved by accident. “It is through hard work, commitment and dedication we displayed in performing our duties. It is the hard work of members who worked as a team, not Cois Muller alone. It is one thing to achieve this award from our Provincial office three times in a row, but to achieve it at National level is the best of them all,” said Brig Muller.

In her address during the ceremony General Riah Phiyega said she also believes in team work and that it is the responsibility of leaders to ensure that they build a ‘spirit de corps’ (team work) among members. “We are in a process of re-engineering the SAPS into a well-oiled machine in order to fight a sophisticated crime patterns, we should do as a team, thus ensuring that we restore the public’s faith in delivering an efficient service,” said Gen Phiyega.

Brig Muller presented a trophy and a certificate to the members who were in a jovial mood for their achievement. He also mentioned to them that the funds attached to this accolade will be used to revamp the Victim Empowerment Centre and the Customer Service Centre (Charge Office) since it is the frontline point where services are provided to our community members.
