More than 100 die on roads this Easter─── 12:30 Mon, 21 Apr 2014
At least 103 people have been killed in road accidents throughout the country over the long Easter weekend.
This according to the Road Traffic Management Corporation CEO Gilberto Martins. The final report will only be submitted tomorrow.
The SA National Roads Agency Limited adds road accidents will continue until motorists behaviour is addressed.
Earlier today five people, including a child, were killed in a head-on collision on the N1 outside Ventersburg.
According to Free State transport spokesperson Saki Mohono, the driver of a Mazda, who was alone in the car, tried to overtake at high speed and rammed into an oncoming Renault carrying four people.
The Renault rolled and hit another vehicle injuring five people.
Meanwhile, traffic volumes continue to increase on major routes. On the N3 1 870 vehicles were counted per hour moving northbound at Mooi Plaza, 1 580 at Tugela, 800 at Wilge and 890 at De Hoek.
