Bloemfontein - The Free State Education Department is calling on local schools and communities to celebrate World Book Day by reading a book today.
Department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says World Book Day was established by UNESCO to promote reading and writing around the world.
He has appealed to all communities to read between 10:00 and 10:30 this morning as part of the department's reading strategy to improve school results.
As part of the department's Book Donation Campaign, Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe will hand over books to learners at Bainsvlei Combined School in Bloemfontein later today.
