MEC turns sod for R10 million Taung Agro-Hub

───   15:17 Mon, 19 May 2014

Dirk Kok - Smallholder vegetable farmers in Taung, North West, will receive a plant for the collective handling, processing and marketing of their products from the provincial government.
Agriculture MEC, Desbo Mohono, attended a sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the R10 million Taung Agro-Hub at the Taung Agricultural College this morning.
Provincial government spokesperson, Bonolo Mohlakoana, says this centralised facility for the cleaning, sorting, grading, packaging and distribution of local produce will ensure adherence to market procurement standards and increase the volumes of products from smallholder producers in the area.
Today's sod turning coincided with the de-bushing of 60 hectares of land for the expansion of the Taung Irrigation Scheme, which will benefit 176 land claimants.
