It's 50 for Jantjies and Mapoe

Bloemfontein - Lions flyhalf, Elton Jantjies will earn his 50th Super Rugby cap on Saturday when he runs out for the Johannesburg-based side against the Toyota Cheetahs.

The Japan bound player cracked the nod in the number 10 jumper ahead of Marnitz Boshoff who will play from the bench.

Former Cheetahs winger, Lionel Mapoe will start on the right wing in the place of Deon van Rensburg, while Andries Coetzee replaces the Cheetahs bound Coenie van Wyk at fullback.

Coach Johan Ackerman has made no changes to the pack who beat the Melbourne Rebels 34-17 on Saturday.

Mapoe will also be earning his 50th Super Rugby cap.

It may be the final match of the Super Rugby season for both sides, but it is by no means a dead rubber.

The two sides who have a long history will be fighting to avoid the wooden spoon in the South African conference.

Only two points separate the two sides with the Lions lying in 13th place on the overall log, and the Cheetahs 14th.

Ackermann feels regardless of what happens in tomorrow's match on the highveld, it's still a season they can be proud of as their hunt for a seventh win.

Meanwhile, former Shimlas captain and Lions 8th-man, Willie Britz is said to be making a return to the Cheetahs.

Britz is expected to replace France bound Philip van der Walt at the back of the scrum.

He said to become the fourth Lion to join the Bloemfontein-based side after Bees Roux, Willie du Plessis and Coenie van Wyk already confirmed moves to the City of Roses.

Tomorrow’s match at Ellis Park kicks off at 17:05.
