Bloemfontein - The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has said Amplats management is punishing its workers by selling off some of its operations.
This follows news that the mining giant intends to sell its Union Mine, Rustenburg operations in North West and its Pandora joint venture, after it was hit by a five-month strike by rival union Amcu.
The NUM's Livhuwani Mammburu says this will result in 20 000 mineworkers being left jobless.
Amplats says it has lost over 420 000 ounces in production to the strike. Its headline earnings per share dropped to 60 cents, a fall of almost 90 percent.
