FS health dept to investigate medication dumping─── 05:19 Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Bloemfontein - The Free State health department will investigate the dumping of medication and consumables at the Pelonomi hospital, the department said on Monday.
"All the parties are in agreement that whoever is responsible for the dumping of medication and consumables must take responsibility and face the consequences," said spokesman Tebogo Oepeng.
Health MEC Benny Malakoane had a meeting on Monday with public works MEC Sam Mashinini, hospital management and organised labour.
Oepeng said medication and consumables were found in a transit site at Pelonomi hospital on Friday during a cleaning campaign in honour of former president Nelson Mandela.
"This cannot be tolerated, particularly when there have been reported shortages of these items," he said.
Oepeng said an independent team of experts in the health sector would be set up to investigate the matter.
