Kuruman - The situation remains volatile in the Kuruman area where the Ditshipeng Primary School’s administration block was set alight last night.

Over fifty schools in the area, which were closed for weeks due to protests, re-opened yesterday, however, parents are keeping their children away from school out of fear of renewed protests by the Joe Morolong Road Forum.

Northern Cape education spokesperson, Sydney Stander, says he believes the forum may be responsible for last night's fire.

Stander says government has already advertised a tender for a contractor to start tarring roads in the area. He has appealed to the forum to allow learners and teachers to return to school.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire at Ditshipeng.
