• 1967: Beatles sign a petition in Times to legalize marijuana.
• 1978: "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" premieres in New York City.

• 1946: 9 Spokane baseball players (Western League) die in a bus crash.
• 1971: Rand Daily Mail explains that Black and White South Africans might compete against each other in an "open international" meeting, though they may not be members of the same team. Sports organisers intending to stage "open international" meetings have to apply for Government approval. Mixed South African teams would be allowed only for the Olympic Games, the Davis Cup and the Federation Cup tennis competitions.
