Bloemfontein - South Africa has the highest number of new HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the UNAids Gap report, released last Wednesday, the number stands at 23%.
The report also shows that South Africa has the highest number of people living with HIV/Aids in the region, at 25%.
Researcher at the Centre for Aids Development, Research and Evaluation, Laura Myers says there are many contributing factors to the results.
In 2011 another survey by the Population Reference Bureau showed that Lesotho had the highest number of adults (15-49) living with HIV/Aids in Southern Africa.
