Bloemfontein - The Free State has the highest number of people suffering from hypertension in the country.
Provincial health MEC Benny Malakoane says the disease is linked to a lack of exercise. Malakoane also said the Free State has the second highest rate of alcoholism after the Northern Cape.
Speaking during a social cluster launch in Bloemfontein, Malakoane said short life expectancy in the province is short.
Malakoane further said the province has one of highest rates of disabled people.

He said the province held third position in the country for HIV/AIDS infections while TB is among the highest.
Malakoane says there is a direct relationship between TB and diabetes.
