Cabinet okays public service disciplinary team─── 14:36 Thu, 18 Sep 2014
Cape Town - Cabinet has approved the creation of a pool of legal and labour relations specialists to deal with public service disciplinary procedures.
The specialists would tackle the backlog of pending precautionary suspension cases in the public service, acting Cabinet spokeswoman Phumla Williams said in a statement on Thursday, issued a day after the executive's fortnightly meeting.
"The intervention aims to get the public service to operate more efficiently and effectively by reducing the period for completing disciplinary processes, especially where personnel are suspended on full pay."
Further, it would ensure proper management of discipline by setting a three month (90 day) maximum limit for finalising cases.
"The legal and labour relations specialists' pool will comprise public service officials who are experts in this field, including investigators, prosecutors and presiding officers, to ensure that the full labour relations value chain is optimal."
