Maseru - Deputy President and SADC facilitator Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Lesotho on Wednesday to consolidate agreements reached during his last visit, his office said.

Spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said the visit was his seventh in Maseru and the visit came after the recent signing of the Maseru Facilitation Declaration and the Maseru Security Accord.

The agreements laid a basis for the resolution of the political and security challenges facing Lesotho, he said.

Ramaphosa would meet King Letsie III and hold meetings with Prime Minister Tom Thabane and Deputy Prime Minister Mothejoa Metsing.

He would also have meetings with the speaker and deputy speaker of Lesotho's parliament and the European Union Ambassador Michaele Doyle.

Ramaphosa is expected to return to South Africa later on Thursday, said Mamoepa.

The Maseru Facilitation Declaration laid the basis for reconvening parliament in October; the dissolution of parliament in December; and holding elections in February 2015 on a date to be set by King Letsie III.

The Maseru Security Accord provided for three senior defence and police officers to go on a leave of absence and undertake working visits on their areas of expertise to SADC or Commonwealth countries.
