Kenya University attack: Fifty students freed─── 11:51 Thu, 02 Apr 2015
Nairobi - The Kenyan Defence Force has taken over the control of Garissa University College, after masked gunmen took hostages and killed at least eight people this morning.
Reports say gunmen stormed the facility and took students hostage at a university in north-eastern Kenya, near the Somali border.
Aid workers say troops surrounded the campus and engaged in a crossfire. The BBC is reporting that Islamist al-Shabab militants from Somalia have regularly targeted Kenya. However, so far no one has claimed the responsibility.
Red Cross Communications Manager, Arnolda Shiundu spoke to OFM News from the scene.
Shiundu says they are busy treating victims.
