Nepad: Africa needs sound infrastructure projects | News Article

Johannesburg - African Union members states need to come up with ”bankable” infrastructure projects that will take development on the continent forward.

This is the word from New Partnership for Africa’s Development (Nepad) CEO Ibrahim Mayaki, speaking at the opening of the NEPAD meeting in Johannesburg yesterday.

He says the Nepad financing summit in Dakar in Senegal last year identified 16 infrastructure projects and that there is funding for them but project ideas might not all be sound.

The Nepad Presidential Infrastructure Champions Initiative has been developed as a vehicle to fast track implementation of regional projects, led by South African president Jacob Zuma.

He in turn said growth and development was a priority for the continent.

The main three components of energy infrastructure development, transportation, and telecommunications are the main pillars of the 16 projects identified in Dakar.
