The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee will need more than a R100 million to honed Team South Africa for the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
While SASCOC has set their sights on 10 medals for the Games next year, the team were able to win just six medals at the 2012 London Games, of which three were gold, two were silver and one was bronze.
There are currently 67 athletes on the Opex programme of which 33 are Olympics and 34 are Paralympics athletes, while 10 are on the national academy support programme.
Meanwhile, the Springbok Sevens team are well on way to gaining automatic qualification to the Games next year after reaching the Tokyo Sevens final.
While the Blitzbokke lost 21-14 to England in the final, they opened a four point gap on Fiji at the top of the HSBC Sevens World Series standings, with just the Glasgow and London events remaining on the calendar.
