Magakwe banned for two years─── 08:22 Wed, 15 Apr 2015
South African national record holder in the men’s 100m sprint, Simon Magakwe has been banned from the sport for 2 years.
This comes after the Rustenburg sprinter refused to take a regulation IAAF doping test on 22 December last year.
Last year, Magakwe became the first South African sprinter to to break the 10 second barrier over the distance when he clocked a time of 9.98 seconds during the South African Championships in Pretoria.
As it stands, he record will stand for the time being at least.
Magakwe was suspended after the period he had to appeal to the Court of Arbitration in Sport expired.
The suspension means Magakwe will miss this years’ IAAF World Championships in Beijing, as well as next years’ summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
