Caster Semenya of South Africa delivered her seasons’ best time during the heats of the women’s 800m at the IAAF World Championship in Beijing to qualify for the semi-finals.

The former world number one clocked a sub two minute time of one minute 59.59 seconds to record the third fastest time during the heats.

This mornings’ performance was a mark improved on her indifferent 2014 where she could only clock a best time of 2 minutes 2.66 seconds.

After her race she conceded the heat was a lot faster than she anticipated and world have like, but she is happy to break the two minute barrier.

The race was a bit quick for me, I wasn’t expecting a very fast race in the heat, I was expecting something around 2:02-2:2:01 but the girls ran a brave race because they want to go through.

“I am happy that I dipped under two minutes, it is going to be tough throughout the championship, so I will try my best.

Meanwhile, Khotso Mokoena has advanced to the men’s triple jump final with a leap of 16.78 metres. 

This afternoon at 14:30, Anaso Jobodwana and Akani Simbini will be running in the semi-finals of the men’s 200m and at 15:25 Bloemfontein’s Wayde van Niekerk could deliver South Africa’s first medal when he runs in the 400m final.
