Vaccines are sensitive biological substances: Lester─── 15:25 Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Vaccines are sensitive biological substances that can become less effective or even totally ineffective if they are damaged through exposure to certain temperatures.
Onderstepoort Biological Products's Theresa Smit says vaccines must be stored and transported within the recommended temperature range at all times and at all points of the cold chain. Smit says the Beyond Wireless temperature-monitoring solution, which is a web-based cold chain solution, allows companies at any leg of chain, to monitor temperature inputs. She says preferably vaccine fridges should be monitored 24 hours per day.
Beyond Wireless's CEO, Ian Lester, told OFM News, the solution is simple, very effective, low-maintenance and cost-efficient.
He says if vaccines are not kept within the right temperatures, it could transfer diseases from animals to humans.
