Bloemfontein - Proteas' test captain, Hashim Amla, has found himself jetting off to England to replace former team-mate and national captain, Graeme Smith at Surrey.
According to the Bloemfontein daily, Volksblad, Smith, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, sustained a fracture in his right knee and will return to South Africa to undergo surgery.
It’s the second consecutive year that Smith has had to cut his stay short in the County Championship with Surrey through injury.
Last year, JP Duminy, whose name has also been mentioned at South Africa’s next test captain replaced the opening batsman.
