A win still eludes the Knights | News Article

The defending Momentum 1-Day Cup champions, the Cape Cobras continued their impressive run of form in the 50-over version of the game as they beat the Chevrolet Knights by 73 runs in Cape Town.

A 143-run partnership for the 6th wicket between Dane Villas and Sybrandt Engelbrecht saw the Cobras to 285 runs off their allotted 50 overs.

The pair came together with the Cobras innings on 146/5 in the 38th over with the home team requiring something special against the Knights bowling attack which was very disciplined at that stage.

The pair upped the tempo by initially playing low-risk cricket before properly putting the willow to the leather during the last 10 overs with some power-hitting at the back end of the innings steer the home side to 285/5.

Life however was not made easy for the visitors in the final overs of their fielding session when fast bowler, Quinton Friend, had to be replaced by Obus Pienaar and that proved to be the game-changer for the as Pienaar got smashed for 20 runs in his solitary over.

The Knights run chase started off solid start with opening batsman, Gerry Abrahams, scoring 62 runs at nearly a run a ball.

Vice-captain, Pite van Biljon was the only other batsman to trouble scorers with a hard fought knock of 49 runs to hold the innings together, but ultimately it was not enough to help his side of the line.

The big shift in momentum came when Mthokozi Shezi was introduced to the bowling attack closed out the win with figures of 4/38 to dismiss the Knights for a total of 212 runs.

The Knights face the Warriors in East London tomorrow before taking on the Lions in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
