Hendricks back for the Knights

Hendricks back for the Knights | News Article
The Cape Cobras and Chevrolet Knights will each welcome a Protea player back into their squad when they go head-to-head in Wednesday’s RAM SLAM T20 encounter at Boland Park.

While opening batsman Reeza Hendricks has returned from Twenty20 duty with the Proteas in Australia and will take the field for the Knights, fast bowler Rory Kleinveldt has recovered from his groin problem at an opportune time for the Cobras.

Hendricks returned from Australia on Monday, and will only fly into Cape Town on Wednesday after being given an extra day to recover by Knights coach, Sarel Cilliers.

Despite the inevitable jet lag - and the excellent form of Rudi Second and Gerhardt Abrahams in Hendricks’ absence - Cilliers had no hesitation in pulling his star player straight into action.

“Reeza is an international player now and he was the leading run-scorer in the RAM SLAM last season, so he’ll come straight back into the top of the order and then we’ll juggle around that,” said Cilliers.

With Jandre Coetzee failing a fitness test on Tuesday after picking up a knee injury on Sunday, and Dillon du Preez struggling with a foot problem, Quinton Friend is likely to come in for his first game of the Twenty20 campaign.

The same will apply to Kleinveldt, who spent the past three weeks on the sidelines but is likely to replace seamer Ferisco Adams - a surprise inclusion in the victory over the Dolphins on Friday.

“We looked to give Ferisco an opportunity, especially early on in the competition to see what we’ve got in terms of resources before guys like Rory Kleinveldt come back in,” Cobras coach, Paul Adams, explained.

“It’s always good to know what options you have, especially for the end of the innings when the pressure is on.”

The game gets underway at 6pm and will be shown live on SuperSport 2. Since the match is televised, fans attending can participate in the “Win Your Share of a Million competition” by taking a one-handed clean catch. This competition is open to anybody over the age of 18 and is for South African Citizens only.
