Cibulkova knocks Azarenka out, Williams adavances─── 09:40 Mon, 26 Jan 2015
World number one, Serena Williams of the USA survived a big scare earlier today in her Australian Open fourth round clash against Spain’s Garbine Muguruza.
The 24th seeded Spaniard won the opening set against Williams 6-2, however the American soon found here rhythm to claim the second set 6-3 before clinching the match by winning the third 6-2.
Williams faces Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova in the quarter-finals as she continues her bid for a 19th Grand Slam title.
Earlier today, Cibulkova secured her sport in the last eight by beating two-time champion, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in three sets.
Last year’s finalist lost the first set to Azarenka before proceeding to win the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Later today Kei Nisikori of Japan will be up against David Ferrer of Spain in the men’s singles, while top-seed Novak Djokovic takes on on Gilles Miller of Luxembourg.
In the women’s singles Aga Radwanaska of Poland will take on 18th seeded Venus Williams.
