The Proteas cricket team depart for World Cup─── 11:17 Wed, 04 Feb 2015
The Proteas cricket team will depart for New Zealand this afternoon ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup which gets underway next week.
The 15-man South African team will jet-off from Johannesburg this afternoon after a send-off function at Melrose Arch.
The men-in-green and gold come off a 4-1 One-Day International series win against the West Indies in South Africa and are seen as favourites for the tournament.
While, Australia go into the tournament as the top ranked side, South Africa’s consistency has seen them labelled as the team to beat.
Coach Russell Domingo, says other teams have taken notice of their consistent cricket.
The Proteas face Sri Lanka and the Blacks Caps in two warm-up matches in Christchurch, before taking on Zimbabwe in their tournament opener in Hamilton next Sunday.
