Hendricks delighted with test call-up | News Article

Knights top-order batsman, Reeza Hendricks is thrilled to have been selected for the Proteas test squad for the upcoming tour to Bangladesh.

The 25-year-old Knights stalwart will get his first crack at Test cricket after the retirement of Alviro Pietersen from international cricket and the unavailability of AB de Villiers for the series left a hole in the world’s top five-day team.

Hendricks told OFM Sport that he is over the moon to have received a call-up and looks forward to the possibility of opening the batting with his former Knights teammate, Dean Elgar.

“I think it’s every cricketers dream to play test match cricket, it’s the ultimate test. I’ve had a taste of T20 International cricket, but I don’t think it can compare with test cricket," Hendricks said about the prospect of playing in a five-day match for the world's leading Test side.

Although the Tigers are ranked 9th in the world, Hendricks warned that they are still a quality side and it’s on their own turf.

“Any Test playing national is a good team. Bangladesh has been doing well of late against Pakistan. We obviously won’t take it lightly, they know their conditions and its foreign ground to us so we’re going to have to play well to beat them,” he added about their opponents who can cause big upsets from time-to-time.

Rilee Rossouw of the Knights has been name in the One-Day International and T20 International squads.

The tour gets underway with the first T20 International in Mirpur on 5 July, while the first Test in Chittagong starts on 21 July.
