SA bring Bangladesh down to earth | News Article

The Proteas have gone one-up in their two-match T20 International series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

South African claimed an emphatic 52-run win at the Shere Bangla National Stadium yesterday thanks mainly to captain Faf du Plessis’ outstanding 79 not out knock which came from 61 deliveries and included eight fours to help his side to 148 for four.

He was well supported at the back of the South African innings with a solid 31 not out by Rilee Rossouw of the Knights.

South Africa then dismissed the confident home side for 96 runs in 18.5 overs with Kagiso Rabada, David Wiese and JP Dumminy claiming two scalps.

Following the match, Rossouw said all their spinners bowled well, but Du Plessis lead the by example.

"Both sides bowled spin really well today.

“Luckily for us we bowled in the second innings and I thought that favoured us a little bit more. We showed good skill and patience but all in all I thought both teams were good with spin.

"We looked at the statistics which showed that 150 is a par score for day games at this ground.

“We thought that we had a good chance of winning today, especially when the ball started turning in the second innings. We bowled well, stuck to our guns and ended up on top.

"Faf played an immaculate innings. We lost two early wickets but he still took the game to them and played his natural attacking game. He led from the front, he never slowed down, he knuckled down and did the job for the team.

The 2nd T20 International will be played in Mirpur tomorrow.
