Patience important for Proteas | News Article

Patience will be key for the Proteas when they come up against Bangladesh tomorrow in the first Test in Chittagong.

South Africa will be looking to bounce back following their disappointing One-Day International series loss to Bangladesh, while the home side will look to climb in the rankings.

South Africa’s are pretty assured of retaining their world number one ranking, even if they lose, however a two-nil series win will see them extend their gap over Australia to at least 21 points.

A series loss, will see South Africa conceded eleven points, and drop to 119 points on the log.

Spinner, Simon Harmer of the Warriors says that patience is the key when playing of the subcontinent.

"I think on these wickets you need to be as patient as possible. It’s easy to get carried away because they (pitches) do turn and you can try to look for too much.

"I think if I can just be patient, obviously if I play, and stick to my game plan by not trying to take wickets, the wickets will take care of themselves.

"Variation is probably also the key over here. Obviously the wickets do turn so you need to keep the batsman thinking the whole time.

"You can’t bowl too much of one thing, they are good players of spin having grown up playing on these wickets, you need to be able to vary your pace and bowl different balls.

The first delivery of the series will be bowled at 5:30 tomorrow morning.
