Bloemfontein - A golden wildebeest bull came under the hammer at close on R3-million during the 4th annual Prestige Golden Breeders Game Auction at Castle de Wildt in Limpopo at the weekend.

According to Golden Breeders and Castle de Wildt, the golden bull Asterix was scooped up by Eco Animal Feeds CC for R2,85-million. The three-year-old bull was bred by the York family and sports a horn measurement of 29.58 inches.
 
The auction saw a total turnover of R47,8-million, with 100% sale of all boma animals and above average prices paid for black impala and golden wildebeest. The average price for golden wildebeest herd bulls was R1,5-million, while young 18-month-old bulls fetched on average R1,2-million.
 
Golden Breeders and Castle de Wildt’s Bernard Groenewald said in a statement the fantastic results achieved at this auction unreservedly confirm that the wildlife breeding market is not only sound, but also dependable and feasible.
