Griquas upbeat ahead of Pumas challenge | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Griquas a expect tough battle when they face the Pumas in Nelspruit this evening in the 3rd round of the Currie Cup.

The side from Kimberley have made numerous changes to their side as they still search for their first win following losses to the Sharks and the Free State Cheetahs.

The most notable changes sees Martin Bezuidenhout replace Ryno Barnes at hooker, while Francois Brummer moves to fullback and Dean Grant comes in at flyhalf.

Assistant coach, Peter Engeldow told OFM Sport they expect a good arm wrestle this evening, but feel confident that they can bag points.

“The Pumas and Jimmy bring a lot of physicality to the game and they play hard direct rugby.

“I think every side will find it tough to travel to Nelspruit, they’re a difficult side to beat at home, but we managed to beat them there in the semi-final of the Vodacom Cup.

“As it stands we’ve played two games away from home there, we won one and lost one ,” said Engeldow on their trip to the Lowveld.

“We’ve made numerous changes to our side and we’re feeling quite confident.

“It’s a tough competition, but we feel that we’ve got the players who can handle the physicality and take that on, and play so good Griquas style rugby,” Engeldow said about their side to face Jimmy Stonehouses’ chargers.
