Stenson ready for World Match Play Championship | News Article

World number five, Hendrik Stenson of Sweden returns to the golf today for the first time in two weeks at he tees it up in the World Match Play Championship which gets underway at the London Golf Club this morning.

Stenson will play in the Arnold Palmer group, alongside South Africa’s George Coetzee, Italy’s Francesco Mollinari and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.
 
Stenson, who is one of four European Ryder Cup golfers in the 16 player field, hasn't played golf since Europe won the Ryder Cup at the PGA Centenary Course at Gleaneagles in Perthshire, Scotland.
 
Patrick Reed of the USA is the only American Ryder Cup player in the field. 
 
The ice cool Swede said he is happy to play in the tournament which has traditionally been very good to South Africans, despite being a bit tired.
 
South Africa’s Ernie Els leads the all-time winners list at the World Match Play Championships with seven wins in the 49 previous times the tournament has been staged..
 
He is followed by South African golfing great Gary Player and world golfing icon, the late Seve Ballasteros with five wins a piece.
