The Spaceman wins the 104th SA Open─── 10:55 Mon, 12 Jan 2015
The spaceman, Andy Sullivan of England made the most on the final day at the Glendower golf club to win the 104th South African Open.
Local favourite Charl Schwatzel who went into the final round leading the field folded as he dropped four shots in his last five holes to enter a play-off with Sullivan.
Having carded a final round 67 for a tournament total of 277, Sullivan then produced a superb iron into the green from the rough to set up the birdie chance on the first extra hole and defeat a deflated Schwartzel.
Sullivan, who last year won a trip to space after scoring a hole-in-one during the KLM Open at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, said the win in Johannesburg means the world to him.
"It's unbelievable," Sullivan said. "After Saturday I didn't think I stood much of a chance with Charl getting ahead that far."
The European Tour now heads to the Middle East for the Abu Dhabi HBSC Golf Championship which tees-off on Thursday.
