McIlroy wins 2nd Dubai Desert Classic─── 09:00 Mon, 02 Feb 2015
World number one, Rory McIlroy matched the lowest winning score in the history of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic to win the tournament for the second time in his career.
The Northern Irishman played a final round of two under par 70 yesterday for a final tournament total of 22 under par.
It was his fourth win in his last seven starts on the European Tour, with the other three finishes having been second place finishes.
Ahead of heading to America to compete in the PGA Tour in preparation for the Masters at Augusta, McIlroy said he is happy with where his golf is at.
"I just wanted to keep my ball in play and not really make any mistakes and try and pick off some birdies when I could on the par 5s," McIlroy said.
"I did what I needed to do. It wasn't the best round that I've played this year but I got the job done and that's the most important thing," he added.
Thomas Aiken was the top South African in the field, finishing in tied ninth on 14 under par.
