McIlroy eyes Career Slam at the Masters─── 17:05 Wed, 08 Apr 2015
World number one and four-time major winner, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland will be targeting the rare and coveted Career Slam when the 2015 Masters tees off tomorrow afternoon at the Augusta National.
McIlroy who has the won the US Open in 2011, The Open last year and the PGA Championship in 2012 and last year, just needs the Masters to be the sixth player to do so in the Masters-era.
McIlroy said after winning the amateur title as a teenager at the 2007 British Open at Carnoustie he would have never thought of being in contention for the feat.
Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen and South Africa’s Gary Player at the only golfers to have achive the feat in the Masters-era.
In 1930 Bobby Jones became the only player to have won the Career Slam in a single year, however it was in the pre-Masters era.
