Tough group for McIlroy at Match Play Championship─── 09:10 Tue, 28 Apr 2015
World number one, Rory McIlroy has been drawn in a tough group for this weeks’ WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship in San Francisco.
The Northern Irishman will be up against reigning FedEx Cup champion Billy Horschel, seven-time PGA Tour winner Brandt Snedeker and 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner in round-robins at Harding Park starting tomorrow.
With many of the world top golfers being knocked out in the opening rounds of the World Match Play since its inception in 1999, the format was changed to give the big names a change to overcome a bad round after in the past it was a straight knockout tournament.
Match 17 of the years’ first of four elite World Golf Championships events with see South Africa’s George Coetzee up against the ever difficult Jim Furyk of the United States, while his compatriot Schwartzel will take on France’s Victor Dubuisson in the opening round.
Louis Oosthuizen takes on Keegan Bradley of the USA and Brandon Grace squares up against Zach Johnson, with defending champion, Australia’s Jason Day and Charley Hoffman completing their group.
