Poulter welcomes Match Play Championship format change | News Article

The world’s top golfers are welcoming the change in format for the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship ahead of tomorrow’s tee-off at Harding Park in San Francisco.

Since the tournament’s inception in 1999, it has been played as pure knockout tournament, meaning the 64 golfers have to win every single match in order to win the title.

England’s Ian Poulter welcomes the move to change the format, and he feels that fans of the game with get there monies worth.

In tomorrow’s opening round, South Africa’s leading golfer, Charl Schwartzel is paired with France’s Victor Dubuisson, Louis Oosthuizen will battle it out against the USA’s Keegan Bradley.

George Coetzee should have an interesting day at the office with the consistent Jim Furyk, and Brandon Grace will be at his very best when he faces the 2006 Masters winner, Zach Johnson.
