With a possible European Tour card on offer for Burmester, the payer said there is a lot to play for.

"It saves you from Tour School, so I think it's on anybody's mind really when they come here, even guys who want to hold their cards that are playing in Europe at the moment, so do the best you can and hope you lift the trophy on Sunday,"Burmester said after his first round at the Heritage Golf Club.

The player who is currenltly sixth on the Sunshine Tour's Order of Merit standings with over R1,9 million in earnings since February wants to keep his good start to the season going.

"I like to think it's been a good start to the year, I've been playing nicely for a while, so it's great to be out here and keeping the good golf going," he said.

"Ive given myself a chance to get into the Nedbank, so these big money events like here in Mauritius are everything for us on the Sunshine Tour. I'm off to a good start, and we'll see how it goes for the rest of the week," he added.

A short while ago South Africa's George Coetzee snuck into the top 10, with three birdies in first 8 holes of this second round.
