Mickelson eyes career slam at Chambers Bay | News Article

With the years’ second major just a week away from teeing-off the players are starting wrap up their preparations for the US Open at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

World number one Rory McIlroy and 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth will undoubtedly be the two big draw cards at the Open.

While a lot of focus was on McIlroy to complete a career slam ahead of the Masters at Augusta earlier this year, the golfing world seems to have forgotten that the USA’s Phil Mickelson can earn one next week.

Lefty, as is known, needs just the US Open to become the sixth player to complete the Grand Slam in the Masters Era.

Mickelson who has finished second or in tied second at the event six times says the feat is haunting him.

"I think about it a lot after the Masters is over," said the five-time Major champion.

"I really like Chambers Bay. It’s a lot like St. Andrew's in that the first time you play St. Andrew's you don’t quite get it. It doesn’t make sense. And then when you play it over and over and you start to realise what types of shots, and where you’re supposed to go, it all makes sense," Mickelson added.

The 115th US Open tees off at the beautiful Chambers Bay on 18 June and runs until the 21st.
